L25 Sterling Anniversary Fund to Help Ensure Community Group’s Future

L25 Sterling CelebrationNovember 30, 2015, San Luis Obispo, CA — Founded in 1991, the countywide Leadership SLO program recently announced their $250,000 campaign to ensure the program’s vitality for the next 25 years.

First to contribute with a gift of $25,000 is the community-building organization’s original sponsor, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E).

Executive Director Sandi Sigurdson expressed the group’s gratitude noting, “Twenty-five years ago former SLO Chamber CEO Dave Garth and the Chamber board of directors had a vision for an independent association that would grow passionate and effective leaders for SLO County. PG&E caught that vision and provided start-up money and loaned executive Bob Burke to create the first Leadership SLO class. Some years later, PG&E again stepped up with the gift that started our endowment. Now its 2015 and we are honored to receive the first donation to the L25 Sterling Anniversary Fund from our stalwart supporters at PG&E.”

Jim Welsch, Site Vice President at PG&E’s Diablo Canyon Power Plant, recently presented the donation on behalf of the company’s 1,800 employees who live in San Luis Obispo County.

“At PG&E, we are committed to building strong and healthy communities. Leadership SLO is playing an important role in that effort through developing real local leaders who are dedicated to making a difference by supporting and improving our region. We believe in the vision and impact of this program, and look forward to helping it continue to grow into the future,” said Welsch.”

Over 800 Central Coast residents have graduated from the yearlong community-building program, including elected officials, CEOs, philanthropists, chairs and board members of nonprofit organizations, and volunteers across San Luis Obispo County.

A first-ever community impact survey of Leadership SLO alumni demonstrates that the program is working. Survey data reveals:
